美國東南部海倫颶風（Helene）近期襲擊美國東南部，造成百萬人斷電與土石流，摧毀了道路和橋梁，並從佛州到維吉尼亞州引發嚴重洪災。自昨（29日）開始，各州政府開始大規模的清理和恢復工作，死亡人數已上升自至少90人。

據路透社報導，海倫颶風的強風、暴雨在北卡羅來納州、南卡羅來納州、喬治亞州、佛羅裡達州、田納西州和維吉尼亞州至少造成90人死亡。死亡人數更可能不斷上升。

由於部分地區的行動通信基地台倒塌，數百人仍無法與親人取得聯系，被列為失聯狀態。保險公司和預測機構在周末表示，損失估計范圍從150億美元（約4750億新台幣）到超過1000億美元（約3兆1000億新台幣）不等，排水系統、通信和交通路線都受到影響。

北卡羅來納州出現30人死亡，災區更需向州政府申請緊急食物和飲用水。此外，電力中斷，人們需排隊等待數小時加油。“雜貨店關門了，手機信號也沒了，”62歲的市民弗蘭克（Chip Frank）在排隊等了三個小時後表示。“現在全看這些加油站了。如果沒有油，哪裡也去不了，這感覺真是可怕”。

截至目前，南卡羅來納州25人死亡，喬治亞州17人，佛羅裡達州11人，而據CNN報導，整個南部共有93人死亡。
